Medical Relief for India: Help Provide Medical Care to Rural India

Medical Relief for India is a non-profit organization dedicated to programs which provide free medical care to the poor and needy in India.

One such program is the SOS Memorial Trust(SOSMT), a charitable foundation established by Dr. K.S. Charak. Through Dr. K.S. Charak’s leadership, the SOSMT providers free surgical and medical treatment at week-long camps in select rural areas. Bhagdevar, Vindhyachal, and Bani are just a few of the towns where the camps have been held due to the unbridled poverty and severe lack of medical care in these regions.

Please take a few moments of your time to watch an amazing video of Dr. K.S. Charak and his team of volunteers at a medical camp in India. The video was taken by Samvedana, a non-for-profit foundation in Europe.

To support programs such as the SOS Memorial Trust the non-for-profit, Samjivani Foundation has been established here in the United States. Find out how you can help support such causes.

The Shri Onkar Singh Memorial Trust (SOSMT) conducted their fiftieth free surgical cum medical camp in village Nougran, tehsil and district Jammu, in the J & K State. This was the tenth such camp in this village which has been selected as the venue for a regular charitable hospital in order to provide surgical and medical care to the ailing and the needy on a regular basis. The whole team received an effusive welcome by the local people, volunteers and well-wishers both at the Jammu railway station as well as at village Nougran on the morning of arrival at the camp venue.

A total of 963 patients attended our OPD. Dr S B Taneja, Dr Hira Lal, Dr Nirupama and Dr Lalita Sharma managed the OPD’s effectively. In between, Dr Ajit and Dr Charak also rendered help. Kajal, the new entrant to the fold, a young and enthusiastic nurse from Delhi, managed the postoperative patients efficiently. A host of volunteers were also available to us this time to carry out numerous tasks that a camp of such magnitude entails.
The next camp will again be held at Nourgam on April 1-April 7 2018.
