Shri Onkar Singh Memorial Trust (SOSMT)

SOSMT has been serving the poor and needy and those with limited access to health care by conducting free medical camps in remote areas of northern India. Since its inception in 2000, this India-based non-for-profit organization has successfully organized and conducted over 50 camps. All medical camps are led by a qualified team of doctors, surgeons and paramedical personnel as well as volunteers from around the world. Medical treatments span the range from outpatient services, to minor surgerical procedures, to complex major surgeries.

Dr. K. S. Charak


Dr K S Charak is a practicing surgeon in Delhi. Born in a village near Jammu, he moved to Delhi at the age of 17 to pursue his medical studies in the Maulana Azad Medical College. He did his graduation (MBBS) and post-graduation (MS-Surgery) from Delhi University and moved to England for a couple of years to do FRCS. In 1980, he returned to India and worked as a senior resident in Surgery in the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (Irwin Hospital) in Delhi. He then spent a couple of years as Senior Specialist in the Ordnance Factories Hospitals under the Ministry of Defense. In 1988, he joined the ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) where he served as Specialist and Head of the Surgery Department until his retirement in November 2012. Presently, Dr Charak is working as Senior Consultant and Chief of Surgery in the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in Vasant Kunj in New Delhi.

Mr. Sudhir Mehta


Mr Sudhir Mehta has over 40 years of experience in accounting, marketing, developing and implementing long term projects. He served a nationalized Indian bank (Canara Bank) for 25 years and later served as Vice President Finance in a private sector exports company for 10 years in Delhi. He relocated to Bangalore to drive the launch and marketing activities for a diamond jewelry company aspiring for a national brand for the next 3+ years.

Apart from active involvement with SOSMT, in the last 10 years, he has also organized and led several pro-bono training and speaking assignment aimed at empowering the youth with qualities of leadership, team bonding, sharing and caring for others through adventure sports like mountaineering and trekking. He is also actively involved in Youth Exchange Programs that provide international exposure to youth.
